Breast PET scanners offer the highest resolution imaging available

MELBOURNE, FL – August 17, 2010 – TEPAS Breast Center, a comprehensive breast screening, diagnostic and treatment facility, is Brevard’s first facility to offer positron emission mammography (PEM) imaging services.

This installation will provide TEPAS Breast Center increased ability to view and stage early breast cancers, positively impacting cancer management. PEM scanners are breast PET systems that offer high-resolution breast imaging showing not only location, but also the metabolic phase of a lesion. This significantly improves the ability to differentiate between benign and cancerous tissue. PEM allows physicians to visualize breast tumors as small as a grain of rice and early-stage breast cancer is visualized in greater detail than ever before.

 PEM dramatically increases a physician’s ability to detect potentially cancerous lesions. As a result, clinicians are in a stronger position to deploy the most effective treatment plans. This can also lead to more opportunities for breast conservation.
